Abstract<\/strong><\/p>\n Declaration of the Rights of Men and of the Citizen from 1789<\/em> recognized very clearly the right of every citizen to move freely, to think freely, and to express himself freely. The European law has been developed in accordance with these basic values of French society. France is a country-founder of the European Union. It would not be possible if France had not been giving regularly its contribution to the promotion of human rights.<\/p>\n It is important to underline how the contemporary French intellectuals were defending the freedom achieved in the result of the battles in city streets and on the squares, but also thanks to the press publications. Each age has its leading intellectuals focused on the national enlightenment. They face some of the key social problems. And since that year of 1789 social changes have been developing towards an Open Society, the Information Society, and the Knowledge Society.<\/p>\n Certain atmosphere had to be created in a professional and scientific environment so that technical progress would get more oriented towards the dissemination of information. Every experimental as well as any other theoretical work begins with a review of previous printed or electronic publications. In the end, they are interpreted in a professional and scientific context.<\/p>\n Librarianship could not have become an international science overnight. This article focuses on the role of French intellectuals in the development of librarianship and informatics. Their attitudes towards traditional values in librarianship are emphasized. The role of Jean Meyriat is crystallized in this paper.<\/p>\n R\u00e9sum\u00e9<\/strong><\/p>\n La D\u00e9claration des droits de l\u2019homme et du citoyen de 1789 reconna\u00eet tr\u00e8s clairement le droit de chaque citoyen \u00e0 se d\u00e9placer, penser et s\u2019exprimer librement. La loi europ\u00e9enne se d\u00e9veloppe ainsi en accord avec des valeurs fondamentales de la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 fran\u00e7aise, la France \u00e9tant un pays-fondateur de l\u2019Union europ\u00e9enne, contribuant encore aujourd’hui \u00e0 la promotion des droits de l\u2019homme.<\/p>\n Au cours de la p\u00e9riode contemporaine, les intellectuels fran\u00e7ais ont d\u00e9fendu cette libert\u00e9 au cours de manifestations de rue et de r\u00e9unions en place publique, mais aussi gr\u00e2ce aux textes dans la presse. Toutes les p\u00e9riodes historiques r\u00e9centes ont en effet connu des personnalit\u00e9s de premier plan \u0153uvrant pour l’avanc\u00e9e du pays, affrontant des probl\u00e8mes sociaux-cl\u00e9s. Depuis l’ann\u00e9e-jalon de 1789, les changements sociaux ont conduit \u00e0 une soci\u00e9t\u00e9 ouverte, la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 de l\u2019information et de la connaissance.<\/p>\n Un certain climat dans l\u2019environnement professionnel et scientifique a d\u00fb \u00eatre cr\u00e9\u00e9 pour que le progr\u00e8s technique s’oriente vers une diss\u00e9mination plus intensifi\u00e9e des informations. La plupart des protocoles exp\u00e9rimentaux et des projets de recherche scientifiques commence par une recherche bibliographique pour trouver des ressources imprim\u00e9es ou \u00e9lectroniques de qualit\u00e9 acceptable ; ces documents font l’objet d’int\u00e9gration et de compr\u00e9hension permettant une mise en lumi\u00e8re am\u00e9lior\u00e9e des probl\u00e9matiques et r\u00e9sultats de recherche, dont les conclusions sont souvent publi\u00e9es par la suite.<\/p>\n De nos jours, les nouvelles g\u00e9n\u00e9rations de chercheurs pratiquent de plus en plus l’acc\u00e8s libre aux donn\u00e9es, dans le cadre de leur pratique professionnelle et en cons\u00e9quence de leur orientation dans le cadre d’une soci\u00e9t\u00e9 ouverte de la connaissance. Cette posture permet une intensification du progr\u00e8s scientifique mais aussi d’un progr\u00e8s social g\u00e9n\u00e9ral, stimulant la communication, l\u2019\u00e9change des informations et la migrations des personnes.
