Learning from the past is a necessary activity to synthetize professional and academic achievements and leverage the experience gained in the past and the findings of previous developments.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The need of a continuous thinking and reconsideration of the validity of previous achievements in our discipline was exemplified in Robert Fugmann\u2019s article: \u201cLearning the Lessons from the Past\u201d (2002) where he identified several interesting conclusions of previous studies that remained valid years after their theoretical and practical elaboration.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The progress of Documentation and Knowledge Organization as a discipline must be built on the previous achievements and on the efforts of the work conducted by pioneers. To this end, one of the major responsibilities of professional associations and academic institutions is to ensure the availability of the knowledge embedded in their works, and the continuous, rigorous check of its applicability on the new contexts created by the social and technological progress.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This presentation describes the method and preliminary conclusions of an ongoing research which aims at analyzing the current presence and visibility in the major databases French Information and Documentation pioneers\u2019 works.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In particular, the study is focusing on the works of the authors cited in the call for papers of the ISKO France 2017 Conference: Suzanne Briet, Jean-Claude Gardin, Eric de Grolier, Jean Meyriat, Robert Escarpit, Robert Pag\u00e8s, Madeleine Wolff-Terroine, Jacques Maniez, Jacques Chaumier, and George Van Slype.<\/p>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Une analyse de la visibilit\u00e9 des pionniers fran\u00e7ais de l&rsquo;information et de la documentation dans les bases de donn\u00e9es actuelles.<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>R\u00e9sum\u00e9<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Diff\u00e9rents auteurs ont contribu\u00e9 au d\u00e9veloppement des \u00e9tudes d&rsquo;information et de documentation en tant que discipline. Apprendre du pass\u00e9 est une activit\u00e9 n\u00e9cessaire pour synth\u00e9tiser les r\u00e9alisations professionnelles et acad\u00e9miques et tirer parti de l&rsquo;exp\u00e9rience acquise dans le pass\u00e9 et des r\u00e9sultats de d\u00e9veloppements ant\u00e9rieurs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">L&rsquo;article de Robert Fugmann intitul\u00e9 \u00ab Apprendre les le\u00e7ons du pass\u00e9 \u00bb (2002) a montr\u00e9 la n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 d&rsquo;une r\u00e9flexion et d&rsquo;une reconstitution continues de la validit\u00e9 des r\u00e9alisations ant\u00e9rieures dans notre discipline, o\u00f9 il a identifi\u00e9 plusieurs conclusions int\u00e9ressantes d&rsquo;\u00e9tudes ant\u00e9rieures qui restaient valides des ann\u00e9es apr\u00e8s leur \u00e9laboration th\u00e9orique et pratique.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Les progr\u00e8s de l&rsquo;organisation de la documentation et du savoir en tant que discipline doivent \u00eatre bas\u00e9s sur les r\u00e9alisations pr\u00e9c\u00e9dentes et sur l&rsquo;effort du travail men\u00e9 par les pionniers. \u00c0 cette fin, l&rsquo;une des principales responsabilit\u00e9s des associations professionnelles et des institutions acad\u00e9miques est d&rsquo;assurer la disponibilit\u00e9 des connaissances int\u00e9gr\u00e9es dans leurs travaux et le contr\u00f4le continu et rigoureux de leur applicabilit\u00e9 sur les nouveaux contextes cr\u00e9\u00e9s par le progr\u00e8s social et technologique.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cette pr\u00e9sentation d\u00e9crit la m\u00e9thode et les conclusions pr\u00e9liminaires d&rsquo;un travail actuellement en cours dans le but d&rsquo;analyser la pr\u00e9sence actuelle et la visibilit\u00e9 du travail men\u00e9 par les pionniers fran\u00e7ais de l&rsquo;information et de la documentation dans les principales bases de donn\u00e9es.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">En particulier, l&rsquo;\u00e9tude s&rsquo;est concentr\u00e9e sur les travaux des auteurs cit\u00e9s dans l&rsquo;appel \u00e0 communications de la conf\u00e9rence ISKO France 2017 : Suzanne Briet, Jean-Claude Gardin, Eric de Grolier, Jean Meyriat, Robert Escarpit, Robert Pag\u00e8s, Madeleine Wolff- Terroine, Jacques Maniez, Jacques Chaumier et George Van Slype.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An analysis of the visibility of French Information and Documentation pioneers in today\u2019s databases Ricardo Eito-Brun (Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Spain) Abstract Different authors have contributed to the development of Information and Documentation studies as a discipline.
